Spiritual Journey: Finding the courage to embrace freedom

Who are you when the shackles fall off?

When the judgements, expectations and illusions clang to the ground …

Who rises up?

When the chains finally break and you’re free..

What does she want to do now?

In this moment,

with this breath…

What does she love?

Who does she want to be with?

Where does she decide to go first?

How does she sound?

What does she feel?

Does she have the courage to handle freedom?

Or would she rather fall in

to another trap?

Mariann Williamson wrote “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our Light, not our Darkness, that most frightens us.”

So what stops us from fully embracing our Light and rising up into the fullness of who we’re created to be?

It’s definitely not God.

In Galatians 5:1, we learn “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

The question is: how can we stand firm? What are we standing up against? How can we stop burdening ourselves with the “yoke of slavery?”

Today, I encourage you to take some time to reflect on who you are at your core. Before you were trained by a particular family, society and set of circumstances … what was the essence of who God created you to be? What makes your spirit soar? What fills you with love, gratitude and hope? What are your deepest hopes, dreams and aspirations? What stops you from living from that authentic place of your spirit that God created?

How are you allowing yourself to be enslaved by society’s expectations?  Do you struggle with people pleasing, fear of judgement or thinking you need to live up to someone elses standards, which have nothing to do with what God is asking you to do? Do you really even believe God wants you to live from that place of inner peace and freedom?

The more aware we become of our own personal trappings, the more we are able to rise up out of the shackles that bind us to boldly claim our freedom and live the life God dreamed for us from the moment we were created.

Do you struggle with embracing the freedom God has planned for you? Do you know the essence of who God created you to be? What are some of the trappings you personally struggle to gain freedom from? Comment below, and I’ll be delighted to provide encouragement and keep you in my prayers.

In John 8:32, we learn “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Jesus, teach us the truth about who we are and who you created us to be. Help us to be aware of the bindings that ensnare us, so we can rise up and truly live lives of freedom you have planned for us. In Jesus name we pray, Amen
