Spiritual Journey: When You Don’t Know Which Way to Turn

When we can’t see the path ahead,

God

is in the fog.

Once we realize how the Light

lives in our hearts,

only fear

is impossible.

No matter how strong we are in our relationship with Our Creator, we all feel confused on our spiritual journey sometimes. With so many opinions and options swirling around, it can be hard to discern the next step on the path God has laid out for us.

The great Christian mystic Thomas Merton wrote:

My Lord God,
I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
nor do I really know myself,
and the fact that I think I am following your will
does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please you
does in fact please you.
And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.
I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road,
though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore will I trust you always though
I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear, for you are ever with me
and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

When we’re clueless about our own lives and lost in a wilderness of struggles, we can feel secure knowing that God is with us, all around us and within us, blessing and guiding us in ways we can’t fully understand.

With faith, we can embrace the truth that He understands our shortcomings and loves us as we are, regardless of the path we choose. No matter what difficulties and doubts we’re facing, we can do our best to follow Him and trust He’ll make things right in the end.

Jesus said “Be not afraid. I go before you always.” It’s such great advice! No matter what we’re going through, deep down in our souls, we can have confidence in the power of Divine love to cast out fear and protect us as we move through uncertainty.

Are you in a time of feeling lost and confused right now? Comment below, and I’ll be delighted to provide encouragement and lift you in prayer until your path becomes clear to you.

God, give us the strength to believe You are leading us toward greater joy and freedom than we could ever find on our own. Help us surrender to Your Highest Holy Will for our lives. Guard us when we can’t feel Your presence, and give us the grace to follow You always. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
