Deeper Life: Cultivate an Eternal Perspective

If it wasn’t for darkness,

we’d never see

the glorious workings

of Light.

Our struggles are a stage

for God to dance in on

and dazzle us

with His brilliant performance.

Someday, we’ll live together in His kingdom …

basking in Pure Radiance-

grateful we risked everything

to experience the contrast here.

Matthew 4:16 “The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a new light has dawned.”

1 John 1:5 “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.”

John 8:12 “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’”

In this world, we face all kinds of struggles ranging from minor “first world problems” to full blown horrific tragedies that feel legitimately impossible to recover from.

The paradoxical truth about faith is that during the darkest times of our lives when we experience our very real human frailty, we can also experience the loving reality of God in a more profound way than ever before.

He is always good, always powerful and always with us, no matter what we’re going through. In times of personal heartache when we are forced let go of attachments to the things of this world, we have an opportunity to more fully embrace the Light of His perfect presence in our lives.

How have you experienced God’s love through a dark time in your life? How does keeping an eternal perspective comfort you in times of grief? Comment below, and I’ll be delighted to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Lord as we go through our own personal struggles, help us to resist the temptation to fall into the darkness of bitterness and despair. Instead, help us to experience the Light of Your Eternal Love all around us – in the kindness of people and our quiet moments of prayer. Help us grow into more deeply spiritual individuals through the challenges we face in life. We can’t do it without you. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
