Deeper Life: Realize your inherent value as a child of God

When I’m given the grace to shake off
the brambles of this world
and find my way back
into the center
of my soul,
I realize

I am

unbreakable

brilliance,
diamond star shine,
infinite creativity,
unstoppable beauty,
pure Light rising,
power –

and so are you.

too often,
we are blind
to our own value –

fashioned by the grand hands
in the image
of God,
wow –

yet we wander
outside of our own selves
looking for who we already are.

I was lost, but now
I am
standing in the center
of my soul,
calling out
into the depths of yours:

wake up,
be still:

remember
who you are.

Facet of glory Divine,

rise
into the life
that has been
given to you –

and shine.

“If we are calm and persevering, we shall find not only ourselves but our souls and with that, God Himself.” – Padre Pio

“People travel to wonder at the height of the mountains, at the huge waves of the seas, at the long course of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motion of the stars, and yet they pass by themselves without wondering” – Saint Augustine

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?” – Marianne Williamson

“The Glory of God is man fully alive.” – Saint Iraeneus

Genesis 1:27 “So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;”

Matthew 17:20 “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

1 John 4:16 “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us.”

In a million different ways, so often in our humanity – we can tend to feel devalued by those around us.

For me, living in a society that values money, power and fast-paced productivity above all else, while being a stay at home mom, contemplative and poet is a recipe for feeling devalued at times. I wouldn’t trade any of these callings for the world, but not receiving much external validation for these labors of love can be tough.

Also, while I’m grateful for the gift of being spiritually sensitive, I struggle with a natural propensity to empathically take on the emotions others are going through – it’s not something I necessarily choose to do, I’m just biologically hardwired that way. It’s easy to feel devalued for being “too sensitive” as if it’s a sign of weakness, when there’s actually a strength to care deeply about others and gain understanding of the human condition beyond the borders of my own life experiences.

Whatever your personal reason for feeling devalued from time to time is, I am here to remind you of the reality that you are a valuable treasure in the eyes of God. The eyes of heaven look past your shortcomings to see the treasured soul within you, which was uniquely created in the image and likeness of God for His wondrous plan and purposes of goodness.

Life circumstances can cause us to feel powerless, but when we remember who we are as children of the Creator of Heaven and Earth, we realize the incalculable power we have in impact of aligning our lives with God’s will and allowing the Spirit of God to impact lives through us in a myriad of different ways including the power of prayer itself.

Next time you are feeling discouraged or devalued in any way, I encourage you to spend some time in silence of prayer reflecting on who God created you to be. Beneath your thoughts about life, beliefs, emotions and the chaotic life circumstances you find yourself in, there is a still point inside of you where you can connect with God’s infinite wellspring of peace, love and miraculous power – I would call that part of you your soul. Far deeper than your personality and lifetime memories, it’s the deep essence of who you are that is a treasure trove of your greatest potential and eternal connection to God, a powerful place to be.

The more you practice anchoring into this deep stillness within, the more deep peace you’ll be able to experience through the trials of life and the more empowered you will be to experience the wondrous power of God’s miraculous, creative, healing power flowing through you into the world.

When’s the last time you felt deeply grounded into the power of your own soul or experienced tangible peace of connection with God? Do you struggle to find that peace on a daily basis? Comment below, and I’ll be delighted to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Lord, help us to see ourselves with the same loving eyes and infinite potential that you do. Give us the courage to embrace Your power in the depths of our own souls so lovingly created in Your image and likeness, so we can shine as beacons of Light for others to realize Your presence in their hearts as well. Give us the courage to live for Your approval above and beyond those, who are not in alignment with your will. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
