Deeper Life: When you say yes to Spirit promptings

A single drop

becomes a trickle,

then a small river starts to form,

and slowly but surely

you become wild with life,

able to cut through rock

and forge new paths in the desert,

roaring like a lion

through nothingness –

enriching the soil for new growth.

Isaiah 44:3
For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants.

Zechariah 14:8
On that day living waters shall flow out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea and half of them to the western sea. It shall continue in summer as in winter.

John 4 13-14
Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Psalm 46:4
Here is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High.

Revelation 22 1-21
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever. …

Do you ever get a sense of the Holy Spirit’s presence nudging you in a particular direction? What happens when you say yes?

God is always speaking to us. Through sacred scripture, nature, people, life circumstances and also directly through our intuition, which we can feel deep in our hearts and souls when we start to pay attention.

In my heart sometimes, I just “know” something. No, I’m not psychic, and don’t worry I can’t read your mind. But internally, I have had so many experiences of the “spiritual gps system” being confirmed accurate that I have learned to discern and trust the guidance of the Holy Spirit, when I receive it and am constantly praying to be guided because I trust God to help me make better decisions than I can on my own. The greatest blessings of my life have come from following this “still small voice” inside.

In my experience, Spirit promptings don’t always tell me what I want to hear or lead me in the easiest direction by any means, but they do make me feel centered, grounded, and loved. I find there is a certain soul – satisfaction and freedom in following Spirit promptings, which emboldens me to follow “into the wilderness” so to speak. And they ALWAYS prove fruitful in the long (sometimes very long) run.

The more I allow that grace of God to guide my decisions, the more that grace seems to flow freely through me in a tangible way. What used to be a trickle of grace now feels more like a raging river of God’s love flowing through my soul, which I think will inevitably expand for each of us as we persevere in faith, listening and following the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

I am so grateful for the blessings that have come into my life through the power of the Holy Spirit. How else would I follow God’s particular unique plan for my life?

How do you experience the flow of the Holy Spirit in your life? Do you ever struggle to follow it? Comment below, and I’ll be delighted to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Lord help us to hear Your loving voice in our hearts, and give us the grace to listen and and go wherever You lead. Help us to ever more freely allow Your graces to flow through us into the world. In Jesus name, we pray. amen.
