A writer’s prayer

Great Creator of all beauty,

I ask that You pour Your Spirit into my work as a writer.

Infuse my words with Your Divine power.

Inspire them with Your brilliance and love.

Permeate them with Your miraculous possibilities.

Pour Your graces into every sentence,

so I can speak the fullness of Your truth in a way that touches hearts

and directs attention always back to Your glory.

I surrender my work to Your highest holy will,

and I trust that You’ll guide it into the hands of those who need it most.

In Jesus name,

Amen

Intergenerational healing prayer and the new Pixar movie Coco

I recently took my whole family to see the new Pixar movie Coco, which is based around the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead. We all loved it, kids ranging from ages 5-10 and adults alike.

It’s about a little boy, who dreams of being a musician, but his family won’t allow it because the only musician in the family tree broke his great great great grandmother’s heart by abandoning her to pursue his dream of being a famous musician. The boy refuses to give up on his dream, in spite of his family’s resistance to it.

In the film, the young boy is magically transported to the “other side,” where he goes on an adventure to receive the blessing from his great great great grandfather to become a musician after all. His journey unfolds by dramatically uncovering old family secrets including lies and murder to eventually get to the truth about what happened in his ancestry, receive blessing of his family and also learn to value family above all – there is much healing for his entire family tree, living and dead.

As fantastical as the movie is, it reminded me of something real and powerful, which I’ve experienced firsthand: Inter-generational Healing Prayer.

Years ago, when my son was miraculously healed of kidney disease after a priest with the gift of healing prayed over him, the priest (Fr. Mottet) gave me a book of Inter-generational Healing prayers by Robert Degrandis. The prayers were so powerful. Reading them, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit like never before. God worked powerfully through that book to change my life and increase my faith.

Now I think everyone should know the concept of inter-generational healing prayer because we all have family patterns we’d like to heal. Do we really want to be tethered to a genetic disposition to mental illness or cancer for example? What about addiction or heart disease? Wouldn’t you rather see future generations healed of these conditions if possible?  Prayer isn’t a magic wand, but I can attest to the fact that it is incredibly powerful.

At that phase of my life, after receiving the diagnosis that my son would battle chronic kidney disease for his entire life, I didn’t realize it at the time, but looking back it’s clear I needed to face a lifelong pattern of helplessly and endlessly taking on the suffering of family members, who never seemed to get better. A lifelong worrier and empath, my spirit was weary from taking on other people’s pain. I wouldn’t emotionally abandon them if they were going through something, but I just really needed God to throw me a bone and rekindle my hope, especially for my precious new baby.

Through the inter-generational healing prayers, I was able to invite Jesus the Divine Physician into into past generational traumas and wounds to heal that fundamental belief system in past and future generations. The results were an amazing, life-changing miracle, which I witnessed firsthand and am still praising God about eight years later. Not only was my son healed physically, I was healed spiritually from that heartbreaking pattern of hopelessness. My faith was renewed and has only grown with time.

Maybe my miracle story sounds as fantastical to you as the movie Coco! That’s okay-I know not everyone is a believer. But as someone, who is passionate about the power of prayer in general and inter-generational healing prayer specifically, I am overjoyed to see how science is catching up to this ancient prayer tradition with the study of epigenetics, which proves how trauma of our ancestors becomes encoded into our very cells and dna structure.

I believe Jesus came to heal us and adopt us mind, body and spirit into His Divine family tree, so we can be totally transformed and healed by him most importantly spiritually, but also more often than we dare dream, physically. To me, the science of epigentics is just further proof that Jesus is ultimately a Genius, who we are all still trying to catch up to over 2,000 years later – in prayer and modern medicine.

What do you think? What are your experiences with inter-generational prayer? Have you heard about it? Are you curious? I pray that the Divine Physician blesses you to heal all family patterns back and forward through every generation.

Floodgates Prayer (for openness to receive more graces)

Heavenly Father,

You are a roaring waterfall of infinite power and glory flowing into the world-

I adore you, but I struggle to feel worthy of Your graces.

By the power of Your Spirit,

wash away my resistance to accepting

the outpouring of wonders You have planned for me.

Dissipate any doubts that block you from flowing joyfully

into every aspect of my life.

Open the floodgates of my soul, so I can receive even more of Your victorious love.

Embolden my faith, and

draw me into greater realization of Your gorgeous strength.

Great Creator of every marvelous thing,

grace me with extravagent openness to Your power,

so I can witness Your miraculous gifts pouring into the world.

I want to live in a state of wonder,

forever amazed by the beauty of Your majesty.

In Jesus name,

Amen.

Miracles and Mysteries

When my infant son Dylan was miraculously healed of kidney disease after being prayed over by a healing priest, I was on fire with the Holy Spirit. My prayers had been answered in a profound way, and my world had been rocked.

Where before I had believed in God and prayed for healing miracles, now I had witnessed one first hand and had had an undeniable mystical experience, which profoundly increased my faith in God’s presence with us on earth. My life was changed forever.

I wanted to shout it from the rooftops: “God heals! Miracles happen!” When I did start telling people what happened, I quickly realized that sharing faith is about more than just miracle stories.

People have very real, very deep emotions and even anger at God, due to the unanswered prayers of their own lives. Many people doubt that God heals today like He did when He walked the earth. Instead of being the inspiration I hoped for, I learned that sharing miracle stories can trigger pain, anger, doubt, grief and other primal unprocessed emotions in many people, which need to be worked through.

I think this is understandable. Though I have been blessed with the gift of faith through trials, I have certainly gone through the gamut of emotions about seemingly unanswered prayers over the years.  Grief isn’t an easy process, and many people get stuck in it and lose their faith along the way.

I’ve realized that sharing faith with others is about more than sharing the spiritual highs and miracles we are blessed with. Though miracles can increase hope, truly sharing faith requires us to walk with people through pain, connecting to them on an emotional level through the trials of life and supporting their efforts to seek God through it all.

This is ultimately what Jesus did on the cross. In taking on the fullness of human suffering and even injustice, He emotionally and mystically connected with every human experience in order to redeem our relationship with God.

God has always tried to draw people to Him by connecting with us, wherever we are emotionally. For example in the Psalms, we are blessed with the full expresssion of every human emotion in right relationship to God. They help us realize that nothing we go through is new or unique – suffering is just a normal part of the spiritual journey, as are glorious unfathomable miracles.

As Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble, but take heart I have overcome the world.”

Through my writing over time, I hope to share the fullness of the trials and joys of what it really means to walk in a life of faith. Hopefully I’ll connect with some aching hearts along the way and help them open up to the infinite miraculous possibilities, which are born of faith.

Prayer for healing of the DNA

Jesus, You are the ultimate genius, who healed the sick with Your unconditionally loving presence, while You walked the earth.

Your power is high above even the very best medical practitioners. All the  mysteries of science point to Your ultimate glory and power over all created things.

I am convinced that You are Perfect Love and Total Healing Power as much today as You ever were.

Thank You for being the Divine Physician of infinite possibilities for our souls.

Thank You for the Majestic presence of Your Holy Spirit in our lives.

Thank You for the glorious plans You have for each and every one of us.

Today, I choose to place all of my hope and trust in You.

I want to invite Your Infinite Healing Presence into every cell of my body.

Please flow the light of Your love into the very structure of my DNA.

Shape and form even the most hidden, deep and secret parts of my genetic make-up,

which have been passed down from generation to generation.

Heal all negative family patterns of emotional and physical problems,

and replace them with a pattern of deep and abiding wellness,

which is reflective of Your Divine Love.

Give all future generations the grace to be defined only by Your highest holy will

and plans for them,

that we may be formed ever closer to Your image and likeness

and ever more capable of doing Your healing work in the world.

In Jesus name,

Amen.

Wherever I go, there You are –

pulsing inside me, a Crystal Fountain of Life,

springing from the depths of my soul –

increasingly overflowing Your love into the world.

The more I let go of myself and

welcome Your Pristine Spirit,

the more courageously I walk through fire

and the less I’m burned.

I thank You and praise You for Your Glory, Lord –

I promise to always invite You into my heart through prayer,

and I look forward to infinitely more adventures together.

Healing prayer for those, who are tempted to violence

Jesus, we are seeing an increase of malicious violent acts in our society, and it is terrifying. It’s tempting to label the people, who commit these horrific acts as being monsters.

But Lord, You are the Father of forgiveness, and You are the father of us all. No matter how hardened these people’s hearts are by sin, we know they are your beloved children, and You have beautiful plans for their redemption.

You know the poor choices they have made, and You also know wounds that have festered to make way to this temptation to murderous rage and hatred. You know all the wrongs that have been committed against them, which have steered them down this dark path that most of us can’t begin to fathom. You know the evil influences, which are shaping their mindsets in horrific ways.

You are the father of compassion and mercy, and we love You. So today, in Your name, we pray for healing of the hardened hearts of those, who are capable of perpetuating acts of violence on innocent people.

Shield them from dark influences.

Dissolve the hatred in their hearts with Your love.

Give them the grace of true repentance deep in their hearts, and start them back on the path toward Your truth and light.

Fill their minds with an insight of Your goodness that will redirect the course of their lives in a dramatic fashion.

Inspire them to seek the professional help they need, and give them the courage to stick with an effective program of rehabilitation.

Provide their professionals with the guidance and insights they need to reshape their personalities.

Surround them with people, who truly love them and can support them on their path to healing.

Illuminate their minds with more positive influences, to replace the voices of temptation.

Lord, You are the King of hope, mercy and miracles. In all of Your creativity and miraculous ways we can’t imagine, prevent those, who are tempted to violence from ever doing harm to anyone, and heal their hearts to come back to You as Your beloved children of the light.

In Jesus name, we pray.

Amen

Do you have a loved one, who has committed a violent act or who you think is capable of such a thing? Please take courage to report suspicious activity to the authorities. And share your story in the comments, so we can lift your entire family in our prayers.
