If you can’t see Me in the crumpled heap of humanity,

barely holding on

to a cardboard sign on a city street …

you’re probably blind

on Sundays at mass too.

Why do you pretend to love Me,

when your heart is closed to My people?

You can’t fool the spirit of Truth,

and I’m telling you:

The Light you seek can only be found

in the achy openness of compassion –

There is no room for pretense in the Kingdom of God.
