Spiritual Journey: When you need a little rest

Today,
I am going to stop
trying so hard to do it right,
and I’m going to trust
divine hands
enough
to lay down
in the valley and rest
for a little while.

On my back
with a patch
of wildflowers
growing all around me,
I am going to sink
into the deep comfort
of my roots
and allow myself
to be nourished
by the depths of earth
and the light of sun,
crystalline warmth
shining down
on me.

For now,
I am going to
allow myself to
sink so deeply
into the stillness of life
that I remember
who I am
and open up
to receive
whatever seeds
the breezes decide
to deliver.

When the heavens rain,
I’ll be ready
for new growth.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.

Sometimes when life gets overwhelming, we just need to step back and allow the Lord to minister to our spirits. Time in nature, a little bit of silence away from the kids, a cup of tea and a long walk with the dog, along with prayer, meditation, spiritual reading and connecting with people I can be myself around help me recollect back into a centered place of interior peace.

How do you rest, rejuvenate and reconnect with God when life gets overwhelming? Comment below, and I’ll be delighted to keep you in my prayers.

Lord thank You for being our fortress and refuge, our never-ending font of mercy and source of grace, healing and love. Help us carve out time to rest in Your presence and be restored. In Jesus name, Amen.
