It’s true,
you would
ask me to walk off the edge
of a cliff,
wouldn’t you?
That’s how you are.
I shouldn’t be surprised
by your outrageous demands
at this point.
Of course,
you wouldn’t let me fall.
You’d be there to bear me up
on eagle’s wings into the dawn like always-
I believe that, I really do.
But how can I be sure
I’m hearing you correctly?
So I’m here in the silence with you again,
trying to listen
for the details
of your plan
through the fog of my feelings
and all the external pressures –
I choose to hand them over
to You and wait
until I know deep down
what to do.
When you asked me
to walk through fire,
I almost couldn’t believe-
but I’m so glad I did.
I’ll never forget the still waters and
the way they soothed my soul
all the way through
into an infinite pool.
Your voice is crystal clear
like chimes singing
into the distance on winds …
the same song is rising in my heart now,
asking me to let go.
Sometimes mercifully,
we don’t have to choose.
A feather falls to the ground and
tips
the balance of invisible scales –
tectonic plates shift,
angels smile,
the earth quakes,
everything changes in the blink of an eye –
somehow when the ground beneath us stops shaking,
we are headed in the right direction
with everything we need
for the journey ahead.
Proverbs 3 5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
Have you ever experience interior knowing of what God is asking you to do? Once you have experienced that feeling and it has proved trustworthy, it can become like a guiding compass for your life. More than just intuition or inner knowing, in our humanity we are hard wired to receive direct communication from God through the power of the Holy Spirit.
The more we choose to follow Spirit promptings into the unknown, the more we can begin to trust they come from God and the more clear they become. But they don’t always lead us on the easiest road! In the same way that the Spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tempted for 40 days, sometimes in our humanity, on our spiritual journey through life, God leads us through trials and tribulations of our own.
The longer we persevere on the path our Creator has laid out for us, the more clear it becomes that His plans for us have always been good. In the long run, truly “all things work for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purposes.”
To hear Him clearly, we need time in the silence of prayer. When all of our other thoughts and feelings settle down, we can more clear discern the deeply peaceful and loving presence of God’s presence gently guiding us along our journey through life.
Have you ever had a strong sense of the Holy Spirit calling you into the unknown? How could you tell it was an inspiration from God? Did you follow? Where did it lead? Comment below, and I’ll be delighted to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Living Spirit of God the creator of heaven and earth, be with us here on earth, as we try to discern the right pathway for our lives. Work through the people we surround ourselves, animals, natures and the interior knowing of our own hearts to guide us always in path you have planned for us – in good times and in bad. Grace us with the courage to take a leap of faith into the unknown when necessary, and protect us from mistakenly following any other voices, which wish to lead us from Your divine plan for our lives. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
