Deeper Life: Finding beauty in the messiness of life

Who can take credit

for the glamor of

untamed wilderness?

Meandering rivers,

tangled forests,

infinite shades of wildflower…

I love how lavishly

our Creator tosses seeds

and allows them to grow freely.

There’s something gorgeous

about the messiness

of life.

If God wanted to, He could create a world full of structure and order. Instead, He created an unfathomable variety of rugged nature landscapes on earth, leaving us to tame them for survival. I think that says something about the way He thinks. It may be hard to survive in untamed wilderness, but from a bird’s eye view – it’s undeniably beautiful.

Life can feel like a hike through uncharted wilderness. Sometimes, it’s hard to see the beauty in the tangled forests of our own daily struggles.

Today, I encourage you to take a bird’s eye view of your own life. When you take a deep breath and step back to look at the messiness of your relationships and personal challenges, can you see the beauty in acts of love and spiritual growth? Why do you think God created your life to have so many challenges? What do you think He loves about you, even on your toughest days?

Ecclesiastes 3:11 “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

God, help us embrace the messiness of our own lives. When we’re caught up in the daily chaos and struggles, help us see the beauty of life from your perspective. Give us the grace to appreciate Your presence with us, in spite of the challenges we face. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
