Deeper Life: Cultivate a personal relationship with God

When we forget

that it’s normal

to have conversations

with God,

we get lost.

But thankfully-

He never stops looking for us.

The more time we spend in prayer, the more we realize God’s presence is with us in a spiritual way.

We don’t always feel His presence, and we certainly don’t always literally hear His voice, but our Creator absolutely does communicate with us in ways, which are tangibly experienced by believers.

Whether you call them angel whispers, intuition, the still small voice, promptings of the Holy Spirit, gut instincts or heavenly GPS – God has a way of giving us a sense of what He wants us to know. To progress spiritually, we must learn to identify and trust this interior guidance. The more we practice, the better we get at it, and the more specifically we can follow God in our daily lives.

Isaiah 30:21 says “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”

Life is full of decisions. Why try navigate life on your own, when an all powerful, loving source of wisdom is right by your side, hoping for the opportunity to guide you ever step of the way?

Today, I encourage you to take 15 minutes to pray and tune into the Holy Spirit by simply resting in the quiet and listening for God’s voice. Don’t get discouraged if you can’t sense His presence right away. Keep practicing, and get into the habit of tuning into the Holy Spirit throughout your days.

Instead of thinking about what God’s saying to you, try putting your hand on your heart and taking deep, slow breaths to feel for His spiritual presence. God is always with you! And He wants to connect to you in this way. Everyone experiences guidance in different ways, so be open to possibilities – in time, you’ll build a personal relationship that’s designed especially for you.

Lord, fill us with the Holy Spirit. Give us the grace to connect deeply with You in prayer and meditation. Help us to hear Your guidance and learn to discern your voice in our hearts. Give us the courage to follow You always. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

What are your experiences following the promptings of the Holy Spirit? What challenges do you face? Comment below, and I’ll be happy to lift you in prayer!

  1. This was such a beautiful post and very needed; I loved when you said “We don’t always feel His presence, and we certainly don’t always literally hear His voice, but our Creator absolutely does communicate with us in ways, which are tangibly experienced by believers”. I know for a fact that God didn’t and doesn’t always answer me that very second, but as you said – his answer most times comes through the actions of others or sometimes it could be me opening a book or something someone says and I’m like – Thank you Lord!!! for answering me.
