Spiritual Journey: Rising above traumatic experiences.

The darkness

that was meant to destroy you

is your path now.

You need to climb up

this black mountain.

Through anger

into forgiveness and wisdom…

Find your power.

Learn to live in fierce solidarity

with the Truth.

Walk with your victorious God

one step

into the Light at a time.

Rise above it all.

Shine on the high road,

like you were born to.

When we are the victim of personal attacks ranging from criticism and gossip to verbal abuse, sexual assault and violence, we are tempted to blame ourselves retreat into guilt or shame. We can become so disempowered that we lose our faith in God and ourselves without even realizing it.

When something like that happens to you, don’t forget God is on your side. When we weep, God weeps. When we’re angry, God is too. Yes, the Lord is merciful and forgiving, but He is also justice-oriented, and He always takes the side of the down trodden.

When bad things happen to us, we need to work through all the emotions that arise and acknowledge the full truth of what happened to us, so we can truly forgive from our hearts and move forward victoriously on our spiritual journey.

In John 8:32, Jesus said “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Part of being spiritually free is knowing the truth about how God fights for us, and the other part is realizing our own worth in how we deserve to be treated by others.

God, please bring justice to those, who harm us. Give us courage to persevere on our healing journeys as we work through our anger into true forgiveness from the heart. Help us resist the temptation to blame ourselves for the actions of others. Help us rise above the harm that has been done to us, and make things right somehow. Restore what was taken from us and more, and help us to grow closer to You through this process. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
