In Your mercy,
fill my soul
with trust.
In this moment,
guide me
by the light
of Your eternal truth.
When I feel the limitations
of my own self,
rekindle
my connection to
Your infinite majesty.
Pour the enormity of Your love
through little me
into those,
who need it most.
The closer we grow to God, the more we become aware of our own flaws and the reality of our dependence on Christ’s mercy and saving grace. It’s uncomfortable to realize how flawed and weak we are on our own, but as we persevere in faith, we can increasingly grow in union with our Creator, who unconditionally loves us, forgives us when we make mistakes and ultimately strengthens us to follow in His footsteps, even allowing us to flow precious graces into the world through our yeses to Him.
As we do our best to trudge through the trials of life, we can be tempted to see God as unjust even though the truth is, He is all mercy and love, present with us ever step of the way. The more we contemplate the reality of God’s infinite love and mercy, the more we can see our struggles in light of eternity and our place in God’s plan for the salvation of all souls like the apostles did.
Peter 1:3-9:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith, to a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the final time. In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Although you have not seen him you love him; even though you do not see him now yet believe in him, you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy,
as you attain the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
In her diary, Saint Faustina shares a treasure trove of insights about the nature of Divine Mercy in light of the reality of suffering on earth. She was inspired to share this perspective by Christ Himself, who appeared to her:
Do you struggle to trust in God’s infinite wellspring of unconditional love, forgiveness, understanding and mercy? Do you struggle to reconcile the trials you go through with your believe in a loving God? Are you worried about the salvation of a loved one, who has lost their faith? I encourage you to learn more about Christ’s mission of mercy through Saint Faustina and the Divine Mercy Chaplet at www.thedivinemercy.org or comment below, and I’ll be delighted to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Lord thank you for all the blessings that flow into the world through Your unconditional love and mercy! Help us to grow in greater awareness of areas inside of ourselves, which could use some work. Strengthen us to flow increasing amounts of grace into the world through our prayers and decisions to follow Your will in our lives. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
