Grace like a game of hearts

In cards,

when you find yourself losing a game of hearts,

you can secretly decide to accept it-

it’s called shooting the moon.

If you manage to lose completely,

you actually win-

it’s a path to victory.

In faith,

when you find your heart aching from the trials of life,

you can secretly decide to accept it –

it’s called surrender.

If you manage to fully let go,

you can embrace God’s plan-

and stand with Him in victory.

Lord, thank You for calling us ever deeper into Your mystery. Please give us the grace to let go of our attachment to the physical to more fully embrace Your spiritual presence in our lives.

Peacemaker’s prayer

Into the darkness of a world divided by hatred,

give me the courage to carry Your light.

Radiate Your truth so brightly through me

that I can’t help but cast out lies.

Ignite the fire of Your love so boldly in me

that I leave trails of freedom,

wherever I go.

In Jesus name,

Amen

The Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.

O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life.

Peace in troubled times

Fiery chaos surrounds me,

but You are the still waters in my soul.

Through prayer,

I retreat-

into the silence of Your presence,

and I am not burned.

Thank You for the promise of Your perfect peace, and

Thank You for sustaining us through it all.

I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

Let nothing disturb you,
Let nothing frighten you,
All things are passing away:
God never changes.
Patience obtains all things
Whoever has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.

Faith is simpler than we make it out to be

All God really wants is our awe

and wonder at His majesty.

Wherever we are,

whatever we’re doing,

we can stand together in spirit-

at the foot of His perfect love,

eternally pouring beauty into the world.

Whether we’re at church or home,

in the mountains or on a train-

we can pay attention;

we can gaze at the vastness of all that He is;

we can marvel at His grandeur all around us.

Everything beautiful points to His glory-

it’s our simple job to notice.

The more we allow our actions to flow from that awareness,

the more our presence can lead others to Him.

Luke 10: 38-42

As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”

“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.

Good news

If you take the time to remove each stone

one by one,

a doubt and fear at a time –

gradually,

the Living Waters will begin to flow more freely through you.

If you want to experience the bubbling joy of infinite Divine Love,

heavy lifting pays off.

Growing in spiritual maturity

When I first sensed the marvel of Your presence in my heart,

I was drawn like a child to a carnival ride.

I perceived Your power and imagined

You’d take me further and faster –

exactly where I wanted to go,

I said yes.

Years of wholehearted yeses later,

I’ve learned that the richness of Your Spirit is the

journey, goal and destination –

in and of Itself.

You haven’t taken me any further,

only deeper-

into love.

I haven’t gained anything,

only lost –

my illusions.

Yet You continue to enchant me and

somehow draw me in, voluntarily –

through the pain of letting go,

into the richness of prayerful silence

and contemplation of Your unfathomable treasure trove

of mysteries.

Unanswered prayers

While my head was bowed in despair from grief,

under the cover of darkness-

God lifted me into the journey of a lifetime.

Across a vast, deep canyon,

through still waters

He carried me

into greater beauty-

wisdom and

authenticity.

I was blind,

but now safely on the other side,

I see.

I wanted life to be easier –

now I’m grateful for unanswered prayers

and a God, who works in the pitch black night of the soul

to deliver us

into His greater glory.
