Spiritual Journey: When You Reach the Limits of Your Human Capabilities

When I allowed my heart to open

so far,

so fast

that it shattered

into a million tiny pieces –

I didn’t realize I was making

the smartest decision of my life.

My love exploded into the universe

like fireworks vanishing into thin air, and

I experienced the gaping emptiness of my broken humanity –

unable to think,

all I could do was ache

for God.

He rushed in to illuminate the spaces between

my scattered shards of dimming light,

and I realized

the emptiness of grief doesn’t have the power to destroy –

it can only expand

our capacity

for Love.

When I reached my limitations,

I realized our Creator doesn’t have any,

and I have become infinitely more brave because of it.

Through my greatest loss,

I gained a stronger connection to the Divine –

and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

At some point in life (in one way or another), we all experience the inherent brokenness and limitations of our humanity. When the pain is too great to bear on our own, we can let go of our illusions about our own independant capabilities and open up into a new level of trusting God for everything.

2 Corinthians 12:9-11 “And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Lord, as we journey through life and discover the limitations of our broken humanity, help us open our hearts to Your great Spirit of love and Eternal truth. In our weakness, help us discover Your strength. In our times of fear, help us experience Your peace. In our times of sadness, help us attune to Your great heavenly joy. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
